Samurai Barracudas.
The Samurai Barracuda's Invitation 7s team was founded in 2007 when just like the Samurai International Team - Mark Dean an ardent 7s fan received an invitation to take part at the Amsterdam 7s. A Samurai player when hearing of Mark's invitation suggested he speak to Terry Sands the founder member of the Samurai International Team. A meeting took place and Sands suggested that there was a need for a team to take over from the Samurai St George development team. ''Barracudas'' was suggested as a team name and so it was! The team immediately became a feeder team for the Samurai International side. Young development players, players with potential and ambition, players returning from injury or after a drop in form, would all play for the Barracuda's with confidence knowing that they had the full backing of the Samurai management.
The Barracuda team provides players with a genuine opportunity to progress their rugby careers, but also enjoy themselves playing Rugby in a low pressure environment. It also provides the Samurai International management with an opportunity of finding new players and to help them develop along the way.
The side also actively support the rugby charity Camp Quality which provides fun activities for terminally ill children. England and Samurai players George Chuter and Russell Earnshaw are also patrons of Camp Quality. To support this fantastic charity please go to www.campquality.org.uk
With a few years experience under their belts the Barracuda's team have gone from strength to strength with the full support of the Samurai International management team. The Barracuda's best success to date was winning the 2009 Bournemouth 7s event where they beat a very strong Stash Allstars team in the final. The Barracudas also attended the Safari 7s in June 2010 where Chester Williams coached the side to a fine quarter final placing. The future is looking bright for the Barracudas so watch this space!
